Build 2008 Launch Day

Friday April 25th at Noon
We launched
Habitat Kingston's
5th Build project!

It was a beautiful, sunny day, and Habitat supporters turned out en masse to help celebrate the launch of Habitat Kingston's newest Build project.

With over 50 major sponsors so far (SEE THE FULL LIST)
this year's Build is bound to be a whopping success!!
.

The usual suspects were on hand to kick off the celebration: Mayor Harvey Rosen, Habitat Kingston Executive Director Sandra Berg and Richard Moore - Habitat Kingston's Board Chair.

Mayor Rosen surprised everyone (perhaps even himself ;-) with the announcement that the City had reached an agreement to sell Habitat Kingston a prime piece of land for only $2.00 - "the price of an acorn" for a future Build - and we all know what grows from acorns!

.

The name may have changed, but the commitment to the community certainly hasn't.

Bob Jurkewycz from
Rio Tinto Alcan, donors of the $60,000 prize money for the 2006 Pop Can Drive, today announced that his company would be sponsoring a new supportive initiative, based on green building practices.

More on that in the coming weeks.

.

Linda Belanger from Genworth Financial introduced our local budding talent, Sara Murray, who wrote an inspiring essay on "The Meaning of Home", which just happened to lead to Habitat Kingston receiving another $60,000 towards a new home for a deserving family.

.Of course, the Launch is just the first step.
But the summer will fly by quickly
and in September, two new families
will truly be ..
