Our final build week started off with a flurry of activity.  Sara and Ryan were on hand to watch as their new front yard began to take shape.  Some of you may be thinking "Well, just lay the sod and the job's done, right?"  Not here! 3 Wilfred Street will enjoy all the benefits of Xeriscaping, a water-efficient method of landscaping appropriate to the natural environment.   Xeriscapes can save a tremendous amount of water. An established, properly maintained xeriscape needs about one-third the water of a traditional turf-based landscape. Some xeric plants require almost no supplemental watering once they are established. An established xeriscape also requires less maintenance than a traditional landscape. And they're very attractive!

Sara and Ryan cooked up a couple of batches of rib-stickin' chili and cornbread
to give the volunteers a boost of energy mid-day.

Murphy, the Taylor's Newfoundland puppy
supervised the crew.

Tuesday

Team Depot returned to complete the deck. Thanks to Paulin for the Trent Lumber for the deck materials.

KPMG helped Garden Guru, Helen, complete the garden. Thanks to Rosaire Pilon Perennials and Brookdale Trees for the plants.

Doug and Greg and began work on the window trim.

A solid boardwalk ramp leads
from the carport to the back deck.

It's all good!!! Thanks to all!

Thursday

We dug out the driveway with the Bobcat and then filled it in again.

We trimmed, painted, hung more doors and . . .

had lunch in the garden!

Saturday
Last Official Day of Build 2007!

Genworth Financial Canada sponsored a Build Day for the Habitat for Humanity Queen's Campus Chapter. In true Queen's spirit, the students arrived to work with great enthusiasm !!! All painting for Build 2007 is complete!

The sod is laid and the gravel prepped for the carport concrete slab. All landscaping is complete for Build 2007! Window screens were washed.

Bryce climbed into the attic (using the newly installed attic hatch) to install the insulated vent pipe.

It's almost done!!!!! What's left to do?

Rick worked on the heating system today yielding shiny tubes and dials and knobs.

Grout bathroom baseboard tile, install doorknobs and door stops, install kitchen cabinets and complete the heating system.

Please make time to join us Friday at 11am for the House Dedication Ceremony. We will together witness Ryan and Sara cross the threshold into their new home. We will then understand why we worked so hard to get to this day.

Thanks to all for your support and sweat and humour
and patience and hard work during Build 2007!!
See you next summer for Build 2008!!
