How to Qualify

To qualify to become a Habitat for Humanity homeowner, the family's income must be such that it does not allow the family to purchase or rent suitable housing through normal channels. In addition, the qualifying family must meet the following criteria:

  • Total Annual Income before Taxes should be at least:
    1 person family $17,515.00
    2 person family $21,804.00
    3 person family $26,805.00
    4 person family $32,546.00
    5 person family $36,912.00

  • The family must be willing to contribute 500 hours of unpaid sweat equity work on the building of their own and/or other's homes.

  • the family must be able and willing to assume all the basic costs associated with home ownership including property taxes, utilities, insurance, home maintenance, etc.

  • The family must provide references from credible, non-family members/relatives, supporting the applying family's ability and willingness to partner with Habitat for Humanity to repay the no-interest mortgage and to maintain the home

  • The family's housing at the time of application does not meet the family's needs because the housing is too costly and/or too small and/or is inaccessible to some family members and/or is in poor condition

  • The family must be able and willing to live in harmony with other families of diverse social, religious and ethnic backgrounds

 


Build 2009

Habitat Kingston will begin accepting applications for homeownership for Build 2009 in September 2008.

If you are interested in applying for a Habitat Home, you MUST attend a Habitat Homeowner Information Session. Homeowner Information Sessions provide information about the homeowner selection process and provide assistance in completing the homeownership application.
