Gingerbread Build 2005

Throughout the halls of Beamish Munroe at Queen’s University, scrumptious sculptures of gingerbread houses adorned the tables. Habitat for Humanity Kingston 2nd annual Gingerbread competition was a grand success. Many returning and new sponsors put in some serious thought, time and lots of candy into their creations. Each house consisted of six 16” by 16” pieces of gingerbread. All were unique and most importantly, the fun they had building the houses was abundantly evident.

Trains whistled joyously throughout the village and music by Kim and Gord added to the fun. Home Depot Christmas trees sparkled festively as a background to the village. The children enjoyed a colouring contest, cookie decorating and a visit from Santa was the icing on the gingerbread. The Sweet Adelaides arrived en mass and not only sang Christmas songs but, put on a show that stopped people in their tracks. The judges spent a long time trying to choose the gingerbread winner.

. . .

After a lot of consideration, the award went to AME Environment and Cataraqui Cabinets for their wonderful replica of Kingston’s city hall. The people’s choice went to Assurant Solutions with the Night Before Christmas – a masterpiece of gingerbread and candy. Habitat Kingston will annually hold this friendly gingerbread competition on the first weekend in December. The fun and experience had by all was the highlight of the day, the fundraising was an added bonus. We invite everyone to join in our fun for Christmas 2006!
